Biography
Giancarlo De Cataldo was born in Taranto in 1956 but has lived in Rome since 1973, where he is a Judge at the Court of Assizes. An author, translator, a playwright and scriptwriter, he also writes for La Gazzetta del Mezzogiorno, Il Messaggero, Il Nuovo, Paese Sera and Hot!. He is one of the authors of the script for the TV fiction film on Paolo Borsellino. His first novel, Nero come il cuore, has been made into a film starring Giancarlo Giannini and directed by Maurizio Ponzi. Romanzo Criminale, with its reconstruction of the deeds of the Magliana Gang, against the backdrop of the mysterious plots of Italian politics during the Seventies, is without doubt his most successful novel and inspired the homonymous film directed by Michele Placido.
