Biography
Feridun Zaimoglu was born in 1964 in Bolu, Turkey, but has lived in Germany for over 35 years. He has studied both art and medicine, but now only works as a writer, scriptwriter and playwright as well as being a journalist. With his first book, Kanak Sprak, in 1995 he became a cult author. In 2000 the film entitled KanakAttack was released, inspired by his novel Abschaum.
He has received numerous awards, among them the "civis" radio and television award (1997), the Land Schleswig-Holstein award for film scripts (1998), the "Friedrich Hebbel" prize (2002) and the "Adalbert von Chamisso" Prize (2005). In 2005 he was the resident artist at Villa Massimo in Rome.
