Biography
Isabel Allende was born in 1942 in Lima in Peru, where her father worked as a diplomat. After her parents’ divorce, Isabel returned to Santiago, Chile, where he mother started a career as a journalist. After Pinochet’s coup d’état she moved to Venezuela. It was there that her first novel, The House of Spirits, took shape and became a great success turning her into a world famous author. In 1988 she moved to California with her second husband. Since then Isabel Allende has written many books and won numerous awards in Europe, in the United States and in South America. Her style has been described as highly imaginative and enthralling, typical of Latin-American narrative of which she is considered one of the most important authors.
