Biography
Born in Viareggio on June 5th 1946, she made her film debit at the age of 15 in a film directed by Mario Sequi and entitled Gioventů di notte (1961); she became famous however with Il federale directed by Luciano Salce, starring Ugo Tognazzi. Still in 1961 Pietro Germi presented her with an opportunity play a role that would be extremely important for her, that of Angela in the film Divorzio all'italiana, starring Marcello Mastroianni, which ensured the young actress a permanent place in the world of films. She made three other films directed by Pietro Germi: Sedotta e abbandonata, L’immorale and Alfred Alfred starring Dustin Hoffman.
She acted in films that have quite rightly remained famous and with the best Italian directors, among them Bernardo Bertolucci for Partner, Il conformista, Novecento and Io ballo da sola; Luigi Comencini for Delitto d’amore, L’ingorgo and Quelle strane occasioni; Antonio Pietrangeli for Io la conoscevo bene; Ettore Scola for C’eravamo tanto amati, La terrazza, La famiglia and La cena; Tinto Brass for La chiave; Mario Monicelli for Brancaleone alle crociate, Speriamo che sia femmina and Il male oscuro; Carlo Lizzani for L’amante di Gramigna; Francesca Archibugi for Mignon č partita and Gli occhi chiusi; Cristina Comencini for Matrimoni; Gabriele Muccino for L’ultimo bacio, and Marco Bechis for Hijos. She has also worked for foreign directors such as Jean-Pierre Mocky, Jean-Pierre Melville, Jean Becker, Claude Chabrol, Alain Corneau, Nadine Trintignant, Pal Gabor, Pierre Granier-Deferre, Margarethe Von Trotta, Bigas Luna and Manuel De Oliveira.
In 1992 she made her debut in the theatre with the play entitled Le faremo tanto male by Pino Quartullo, and still in the theatre she performed, directed by Piero Maccarinelli, in Line directed by Israel Horovitz (1994) and in Un’ora e mezza di ritardo directed by Jean Dell and Gérald Sibelyras (2005).

The many awards she has won include: in2006 the Leone d'Oro alla Carriera at the Venice International Film Festival, the Telegatto di Platino, il Nastro d'Onore 2006 and the Globo d’Oro alla Carriera awarded by the Foreign Press in Italy.
